Fishing

From ECLIPSE Roleplay

Fishing is a relaxing and profitable activity in Eclipse RP that allows players to catch various types of fish and sell them for money while gaining experience. The fishing system features dynamic zones, various equipment tiers, weather and time-based bonuses, and a social party system.

Overview

Fishing is a skill-based activity that becomes more profitable and accessible as you level up. Players can fish solo or in groups, with better equipment and knowledge of game mechanics leading to higher earnings. The activity requires a fishing rod and bait, and fish can be sold at designated drop-off points around the map.

Getting Started

Required Equipment

To start fishing, you need:

  • Fishing Rod - At minimum, a Basic Fishing Rod (available from stores)
  • Bait - Various types available, starting with Trash Bait which can be collected for free

Finding Bait

Players can collect free bait using the command:

  • /pickbait - Collect 20 Trash Bait (takes 10 seconds, modified by Agility)

Alternatively, better bait types can be purchased from stores.

How to Fish

  1. Equip a fishing rod from your inventory
  2. Stand near a water source (ocean, lake, or designated fishing zone)
  3. Use the fishing rod to start fishing
  4. Wait for a notification that a fish is on your line
  5. Press K to reel in the fish
  6. In regular zones, complete the minigame to successfully catch the fish
  7. Continue fishing or visit a drop-off point to sell your catch

There are 11 different fish species available, each with varying rarity and value:

Fish Value Calculation

The actual value of each fish depends on its weight:

  • Fish weight ranges from 0.5kg to 5.0kg
  • Heavier fish are worth up to 1.5x the base value
  • Most fish weigh around 2.0kg on average
  • Weight distribution favors lighter fish (50% chance of very light, 30% chance of medium, 20% chance of heavy)

Bait Types

Bait determines which fish you can catch and requires specific fishing levels:

Bait Type Required Level Catchable Fish Notes
Trash Bait 0 Bass, Salmon Free via /pickbait, 30% base junk chance
Worm Bait 5 Bass, Salmon Low junk chance (10%)
Shrimp Bait 15 Tuna, Snapper, Bass Unlocks mid-tier fish
Premium Bait 30 Shark, Protected Fish, Bass Unlocks dangerous catches
Master Bait 50 Marlin, Swordfish, Bass High-value fish
Exotic Bait 70 Goldfish, Sturgeon, Bass Rare fish only
Legendary Bait 90 Dragon Fish, Bass Required for legendary catches

Note: There is a 5% chance to catch ANY fish regardless of bait or zone restrictions!

Fishing Rods

Better rods increase your fishing speed and make minigames easier:

Rod Type Required Level Speed Bonus Benefits
Basic Fishing Rod 0 1.0x Standard speed, no bonuses
Intermediate Fishing Rod 15 1.05x 5% faster catches, easier minigames
Advanced Fishing Rod 35 1.1x 10% faster catches, easier minigames
Master Fishing Rod 60 1.15x 15% faster catches, easiest minigames

The rod you use affects:

  • Catch Speed - Better rods reduce wait time between catches
  • Minigame Difficulty - Higher tier rods make the reeling minigame easier

Fishing Zones

Fishing can be done anywhere there's water, but designated Fishing Zones offer significant advantages:

Zone Types

Regular Zones

  • Standard fishing zones with full fish variety
  • Require minigame completion to catch fish
  • Can deplete over time (fish density decreases)
  • Replenish automatically every 10 minutes
  • Identified by blue fishing blips on the map

Pier Zones

  • No minigame required - Automatic catches!
  • 75% XP compared to regular zones
  • 120% value boost to fish caught
  • Ideal for AFK fishing or casual players
  • Identified by light blue blips on the map

Illegal Zones

  • Spawn Protected Fish (illegal to sell normally)
  • 120% value boost to all catches
  • Higher risk due to illegal activity
  • Identified by red blips on the map

Zone Mechanics

  • Fish Density - Zones start at 100% density (1.0)
  • Each catch depletes density by 10%
  • Low density = higher junk catch rate
  • Zones replenish 5% density every 10 minutes
  • Some zones don't deplete (check with admins)

Fishing Mechanics

Junk Catches

Not every catch is a fish! You may reel in junk items:

Common Junk:

  • Seaweed
  • Trash
  • Old Boot
  • Old Glove
  • Plastic bottles, cups, bags, containers
  • Occasionally: Silver valuables (Silver Elephant, Silver Figure, Spoon)

Junk Rates:

  • Trash Bait - 30% base, up to 90% in depleted zones
  • Other Bait - 10% base, up to 70% in depleted zones
  • Outside Zones - 50-70% junk chance
  • Fish Density affects junk rates (lower density = more junk)

Preferred Fish System

The game features a rotating preferred fish that changes every 6 hours:

  • One fish species is marked as "preferred" at drop-off points
  • Preferred fish must be fresh (caught within the last 6 hours)
  • Selling preferred fish gives a 20% bonus on top of base value
  • The preferred fish changes automatically and is shown at drop-off locations
  • Protected Fish are never selected as preferred

Example: If Bass is preferred and you catch it fresh, a $150 Bass becomes $180!

Party Fishing System

Fishing with friends provides XP bonuses:

Party Requirements

  • Minimum 2 players within 10 meters of each other
  • Both players must be actively fishing
  • No formal party system needed - proximity-based

Party Bonuses

  • 20% bonus XP per party member (including yourself)
  • 2 players = 40% bonus XP (20% × 2)
  • 3 players = 60% bonus XP (20% × 3)
  • 4 players = 80% bonus XP (20% × 4)
  • No money bonus - only XP is affected

Tip: Party fishing is excellent for power-leveling your fishing skill!

Selling Your Catch

Drop-Off Locations

There are two drop-off points marked on the map with anchor icons:

  1. Los Santos Drop-Off - Full value for your fish
  2. Paleto Bay Drop-Off - 90% value (10% penalty for distance)

Selling Process

  1. Go to a drop-off point (marked with an anchor blip)
  2. Press Y when you see the notification
  3. All fish in your inventory are sold automatically
